Sea Level has been a staple in Capitola Village since 1987. For the past 11 years, it’s been owned and operated by Stacy Branson, who first came to Capitola as a vacationer and later found the opportunity to turn a beloved place into her business.
A Community-Driven Business
For Stacy, one of the best parts of running Sea Level is being part of Capitola’s close-knit business community. Each shop, restaurant, and business plays its own role, and together they make Capitola a destination that feels complete. “Our individual businesses are like unique puzzle pieces,” she says, “and together they make Capitola such a special place to visit and do business.”
From Vacation Spot to Ownership
Sea Level has been serving customers for over 38 years, and Stacy took ownership 11 years ago. Her connection to Capitola runs deep—she grew up vacationing here with her family, escaping the heat of the Valley to enjoy the beach, shops, and restaurants. Now, she gets to watch new generations of families build those same kinds of memories.
A Name That Fits
Although Stacy didn’t come up with the name, she appreciates how well it suits the shop. The play on words gives her a fun way to welcome customers: “You’re officially at Sea Level.”
Experiencing Capitola
When asked what makes Capitola unique, Stacy points to its ability to offer something for everyone. Families can spend the day at the beach, explore the shops, and cap things off with dinner and live music. It’s the same pattern she enjoyed growing up and one she still sees today.
Shopping with Vinnie
Outside of running her store, Stacy enjoys exploring Capitola with her dog, Vinnie. Their outings often start at Capitola Paws, where Vinnie gets his favorite chicken and waffle treat, followed by browsing local shops like the Craft Gallery. Stacy says Christmas shopping in the village is stress-free when Vinnie gets a treat and she gets to cross another gift off her list.
What Customers Come For
Sea Level offers something for every member of the family. Men often return for the T-shirt selection, kids head straight to their section for glow-in-the-dark designs and cozy sweatshirts, and women frequently compliment the softness and quality of the apparel. And of course, the sales rack is a universal draw.
But it’s not just the products that keep customers coming back. Stacy says the atmosphere is part of the appeal. Laughter, singing, and lighthearted fun are often part of the shopping experience. “What I really appreciate about the Sea Level customer,” she notes, “is that they know they can be themselves here.”
