Nestled at the Wharf-end of Capitola’s historic Venetian Court, Craig and Connie Nunes’ “Pink Venetian” offers guests the quintessential seaside getaway. A pastel gem in a historic enclave, this two-story property is more than just a picturesque home—it’s a symbol of the couple’s love for Capitola, a village known for its charm and welcoming spirit. Since 2016, Craig and Connie have been part of this unique community, building connections and sharing the beauty of their home with visitors from near and far.

When they first arrived in Capitola, Craig and Connie quickly discovered a neighborly warmth that has only deepened over time. “Our Venetian Court and Cliff Drive neighbors, as well as the Village business owners, are incredible,” they share. “We’ve gotten to know more people here in eight years than we have in our hometown over the hill in 30 years.” This friendly atmosphere is something their guests often notice and appreciate. Many visitors become long-term friends with many of the Capitola locals, returning to the Pink Venetian each year to rekindle connections and create new memories.

The Story Behind The Pink Venetian

The Pink Venetian has a backstory as colorful as its exterior. Originally painted beige like the rest of Venetian Court, its vibrant hue was inspired by a trip to Bermuda by former owners William and Ann Bucher. In 1967, William gifted the unit to Ann for Mother’s Day, and later moved in full-time in 1977. Their color choice sparked a trend that spread among the neighbors, creating the beloved pastel palette that gives the Venetian Court its iconic appearance today.

Love At First Sight

Capitola’s beachfront properties rarely hit the market, making the opportunity to own a piece of it almost serendipitous. “We actually had an interest in a property in Stinson Beach, but when we saw the Pink Venetian for the first time, it was love at first sight,” recalls Craig. The Pink Venetian, part of the Venetian Court’s Spanish mission-style architecture dating back to 1924, is a beautiful blend of historic character and modern comfort. The Nunes’ purchased the home in 2016 and have since upgraded it, transforming it into an inviting blend of old and new. While the exterior maintains its classic charm, inside guests enjoy modern conveniences like smart-home lighting and shades, a new gas fireplace, and a high-end kitchen appliances.

Seaside Charm and Scenic Wonders

Capitola’s unique blend of seaside charm and proximity to the stunning Monterey Bay make it a special destination for visitors. “The Village is just a five-minute walk from our door, filled with wonderful restaurants and shops,” say the Nunes’. Among their dining favorites are Margaritaville, Trestles, Caruso’s, and Mijo’s, and they love shopping at local spots like Lumens, Ethos, Capitola Reef, and Craft Gallery. But the allure of Capitola extends beyond the Village—just outside the Pink Venetian, the Monterey Bay teems with wildlife. Sea birds, otters, seals, dolphins and even whales are frequent sights, creating a magical setting right outside guests’ windows.

Exploring Capitola’s Scenic Routes

While the Nunes’ love Capitola’s dining and shopping, their favorite activities include exploring the area’s scenic beauty. One favorite route takes them from Capitola Beach through the Village, along the railroad tracks, and down to New Brighton State Beach. Another treasured path leads them along Opal Cliff Drive to Pleasure Point, passing the home of surfing legend Jack O’Neill. Closer to home, they enjoy relaxing on the Pink Venetian’s beachside patio, grilling on the balcony, and simply savoring the stunning views from their own property.

The Perfect Getaway Location

When guests come to the Pink Venetian, it’s all about the unbeatable location. “Our guests all agree that there is no better seaside location in all of Northern California,” say the Nunes’. With Capitola Beach just steps away and the lively Village a short walk beyond, visitors find everything they need right outside their door. “The ability to park your car on arrival and not worry about it again until you leave is a big perk,” they add. The Pink Venetian is not just a stay; it’s an experience—where memories are made, friendships are forged, and Capitola’s beauty is yours to enjoy, one stunning view at a time.

For Craig and Connie Nunes, sharing the Pink Venetian with guests is a joy that brings people together in the spirit of Capitola. With its historic charm, modern comforts, and breathtaking location, the Pink Venetian offers an unforgettable retreat on California’s golden coast.
