In the heart of Capitola lies a hidden gem for our furry friends – Brad’s Barkery. We had the pleasure of sitting down with Virginia Maxwell, the owner of Brad’s Barkery, to learn more about her journey and what makes this quaint establishment a must-visit for both locals and tourists alike.
Embracing the Capitola Community
For Virginia, the allure of doing business in Capitola lies in the warm embrace of the locals and the vibrant energy of the tourists. Having lived and worked in Capitola two decades ago, the beauty of the area still captivates her. It’s a place where community spirit thrives, making it the perfect setting for Brad’s Barkery to flourish.
From Carmel to Capitola: A Journey of Expansion
Brad’s Barkery made its mark in Capitola in August 2023, marking the beginning of a new chapter for Virginia and her team. With a location already established in Carmel-by-the-Sea, the decision to open a second location came from a desire to better serve their loyal customers from Santa Cruz County who had been visiting the Carmel store for the past 3 years. Expanding to Capitola felt like a natural progression.
The Inspiration Behind the Name
The name ‘Brad’s Barkery’ holds a special significance, rooted in the love for a four-legged family member – Brad, the rescue dog and taste tester extraordinaire. The business was really started by Natalie, Virginia’s daughter, who began offering offering the treat bags for new dog adoptions at Peace of Mind Dog Rescue and Animal Friends Rescue in both Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties. What began as a heartfelt gesture blossomed into a thriving business named after Brad, and driven by a passion for providing wholesome treats for our faithful companions.
