Nestled in the heart of Capitola Village, Caruso’s has become a beloved local institution, renowned not only for its delectable offerings but also for its vibrant sense of community. We had the pleasure of speaking with the owner, Melissa Serriteno, who shared insights into what makes doing business in Capitola such a unique and rewarding experience.

A Community Like Family

When asked about the favorite aspect of operating in Capitola, Melissa didn’t hesitate. “My favorite thing about doing business in the Village is the community. It has become like a family. Without them, Caruso’s would not be what it has become. Also, being by the beach is a wonderful benefit!”

This sense of community is palpable at Caruso’s, where locals and visitors alike are greeted with warm hospitality and a welcoming atmosphere.

A Decade of Delight

Caruso’s is on the brink of a milestone, celebrating ten years operating in the Village on October 10th, 2024. The journey began even earlier, in 2010, with the launch of Surfing Dog Hotdogs on the corner of San Jose Ave. Since then, Capitola Village has been the backdrop for their culinary ventures.

A Legacy Preserved

The story behind the purchase of Caruso’s is one of continuity and respect for tradition. “Once we purchased the business, the name Caruso’s was already there. We decided to keep the name to keep the tradition going,” said Melissa. This decision has allowed Caruso’s to build on its established reputation while infusing it with new energy and passion.

The Magic of Capitola

Capitola is more than just a beautiful location; it’s a place brimming with charm and character. “Besides it being one of the most beautiful places in California, Capitola is a particularly special place to live, work and, of course, visit.” The scenic beauty, combined with the vibrant local culture, makes Capitola a truly special destination.

Simple Pleasures

For the owner, the joys of Capitola are simple yet profound. “My favorite thing to do in Capitola Village is go to the ocean, watch the sunset, and hang out with friends.” These moments of tranquility and connection reflect the essence of life in this picturesque village.

Culinary Excellence

Caruso’s has earned a loyal following, and it’s easy to see why. “Everyone loves to come to Caruso’s for the great food and environment, especially because it’s family-owned and everything is made fresh,” said Melissa. “Chef Luis’ Cioppino is the best!” This commitment to quality and authenticity is at the heart of Caruso’s success.

As Caruso’s approaches its ten-year anniversary, it stands as a testament to the power of community, the joy of culinary artistry, and the beauty of Capitola. Whether you’re a long-time local or a first-time visitor, a trip to Caruso’s promises an experience that is both delicious and delightful.
